1. What is a Zip and Link Bed?

Zip and Link beds first gained popularity in the hotel industry as the epitome of class and versatility, allowing for easy transformation of a bed determined by the number of guests to be accommodated.

A Zip and Link bed is thus highly useful since it can function as either two single beds or as a double when combined. The two single beds can be connected via strong link bars at the ends of each of the bases. These bars hold together the two bases tightly and in this way the bases cannot shift away from each other. Two mattresses comprising specially-designed zippers are then placed one above each base. The zippers equally allow for mattresses to be connected with ease or separated to form two individual single beds, as and when required. It is for this reason that Zip and Link beds have recently gained popularity in residential homes of all sizes, allowing for easy customization in almost any space.

3. What are the Main Benefits of a Zip and Link Bed?

Firstly, a Zip and Link bed is extremely comfortable and luxurious in design. It also allows for the varying needs of families. This is because a Zip and Link bed quickly and easily transforms into two single beds (twin beds) and equally functions, when combined, as a double – a great fit for the changing needs of a guest bedroom, for instance.

Secondly, an additional advantage of a Zip and Link bed is that it offers a more solid sleeping experience for couples. Individuals who are lighter sleepers are often disturbed by their partners moving around at night. Because Zip and Link beds are separate beds combined, they offer independent spring support whilst still having the benefit of lying beside your partner. In this way, couples can enjoy a more peaceful and uninterrupted sleep.

Tied to this, is the fact that more solid mattresses with specially-designed coils reduce the motion felt by your partner tossing and turning. However, these mattresses are often much pricier in double bed size. The Zip and Link bed thus reduces the cost since mattresses need not be as pricey to obtain the same support .

Thirdly, the beauty of the versatile Zip and Link bed is that due to the separate nature of the design, beds can easily and quickly be moved from one place to another. This means that two people can more easily lift each single bed opposed to the bulky nature of carrying or moving a double bed mattress. The Zip and Link bed is therefore ideal for the smallest of apartments or apartments without a lift and that may have a narrow stairwell.

4. Can I Feel the Zippers Attaching the Twin Beds?

No, you definitely won’t. This is because the zippers are placed conveniently at the sides of the mattresses and not on the part on which you will lie. Moreover, zippers are designed below the top seam on the side of each mattress and hence are no where to be seen when zipped up and when the beds are combined since the seam completely covers the zipper.

5. Can I Use a Headboard With a Zip and Link Bed?

There are two main options when considering using a headboard with a Zip and Link bed. Firstly, if you want to maintain the versatility of the Zip and Link bed then your best bet is to go with two separate headboards, one for each single bed. Having two separate headboards allow for the beds to be separated with ease, moving one base, mattress and headboard together and away from the other.

On the other hand, you may opt for a single, large headboard for aesthetic purposes. This option means that the headboard itself would have to be take off completely when you want to dissemble the two beds.

6. What Zip and Link Bed Should I Use for My Guest House or Hotel?

This depends on your budget and accommodation requirements. You could opt for a better quality mattress and base and then merely replace the mattress topper on a regular basis. This would be hygienic and also more comfortable for your guests.

Alternatively, you could opt for changing the mattress itself more regularly and thus purchase one of a lower priced mattresses – good for hygiene purposes but maybe not best in terms of comfort.

Other factors that play a role in this choice would be whether there is other seating available in the room or whether guests may solely sit on the bed for watching TV or lounging. If the latter, you may definitely want to invest in a longer lasting and more durable mattress.
